Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Its Expanding Frontiers
Global AI companies like OpenAI and Perplexity are heavily targeting India’s youth market as they ramp up regional adoption. OpenAI has launched India-specific ChatGPT pricing, added support for Indian languages, and optimized its app for low-bandwidth regions. At the same time, Perplexity has struck partnerships (e.g., offering pro plans via telecom players) to gain distribution in India’s mobile ecosystem.
On the academic and policy front, researchers are exploring how to integrate AI incident reporting into telecommunications law, arguing that algorithmic failures, bias, or performance degradation must become part of regulatory frameworks. They contend that existing rules in cybersecurity and data protection don’t adequately capture AI-specific risks.
India’s AI journey now involves multiple vectors: consumer adoption, startup ecosystem growth, regulatory safeguards, and socioethical questions—all coalescing into one of the most consequential technology stories of our time.
