What level of AI is right for your DAM?
There are a plethora of options available to you when reading about the artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities that today's DAM vendors provide. Everything from promises of automated, off-the-shelf AI to the capacity to "train your own AI" is available. I divide artificial intelligence (AI) into three categories: generic, learned, and self-learning AI, to help make sense of these claims. Generic AI is typically already in a DAM, and leverages standard AI services from companies like Google, Amazon, Microsoft, IBM, and others. The underlying technology works with pre-trained models and/or algorithms and is developed to work for generic content and vocabularies. Essentially, they speak a common language that most people—across companies, industries, etc.—can understand.
